Barrington Court, Somerset

Barrington Court, Somerset Earthworks in the east garden and parkland to the south of Barrington Court were investigated and analytically surveyed in the spring of 2006. Those to the east of the house resolved into the remains of a formal garden that was probably associated with an early phase of the house. The layout is symmetrical in plan and would not be out of place in the 16th or earlier 17th century. Within the park a series of drainage features influenced the layout of ridge and furrow cultivation that can probably be dated to the late 18th or early 19th century. Early mapping indicates the possibility that a moated site once lay to the north of the house.
