The Queen Elizabeth’s Progress
English Heritage at Kenilworth Castle is working in partnership with National Trust at Charlecote Park, Warwickshire Heritage Services and Stratford Museums to recreate the progress of Queen Elizabeth I around historic sites and towns across Warwickshire in Summer 2008.
2008 marks the 450th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth I’s accession to the throne. Queen Elizabeth I made several trips to our region to meet with her loyal subjects. This was known as a Royal progress. To mark this year we are working together and with local schools to recreate the Royal progress around our sites and towns.
What will the project include?
Each venue will work with one local school when they visit their site or town to work on Tudor activities linked to that site. These visits will take place during the week commencing 30th June 2008. The activities will include Tudor dancing, pageantry, Tudor education and Tudor food.
All of the schools will then meet up at Kenilworth Castle on Friday 3rd July 2008 so that they can present their work to a ‘visit’ from Queen Elizabeth I.
Our aims are to give children a first hand experience of Tudor life and to celebrate and engage young people in their local heritage.
The project also links to Unit 8 of KS2 History Life for Rich and Poor Tudors.
