Meet the presenters ‘Topsy and Turvy’ on the new children’s audio tour and hear some stories of extraordinary weirdness with unbelievable and unexpectable facts! An entertaining and humorous way of learning more about the castle.

From Powerhouse to Poorhouse Exhibition

Suggested Time: 30 minutes
Children and parents can learn together in the new exhibition at the poorhouse.  There’s a wealth of stories presented in 2 different ways: a more formal, adult version and a more interactive, children’s version. Find about about the clever and greedy barons who played a pivotal role in the signing of the Magna Carta, the people rich and poor who flocked to Framlingham in support of Mary Tudor and the children and adults who found shelter in the poorhouse. 

Giant Games

Days Out Worth Talking About Framlingham Castle These games are big enough to amuse the whole family!  Test out your building proficiency with the ‘Build a Brick Red Chimney’ game.  Or why not try a game of ‘Kings, Earls, Cobblers and Spinners’ – a version of family favourite ‘Snakes and Ladders’, but with latrines instead of snakes!

Orford Castle

Distance: 15 miles
Days Out Worth Talking About Framlingham Castle  Discover one of England’s most complete and unusual keeps. A medieval royal fortress built by Henry II between 1165 and 1173. It has a warren of passageways and chambers to be explored, with a winding staircase right to the top where you can enjoy spectacular views of Orford Ness.  Keep a look out for the Orford Merman, a mysterious being from the sea, imprisoned here before escaping from his captors! 

Saxtead Post Mill

Distance: 2.5 miles
Come in and experience a working windmill! There has been a mill at Saxtead Green since 1287. Clamber up the winding wooden stairs and watch the mechanism turn on its post to face the wind The present mill has recently been refurbished and is in good working order.

Sutton Hoo

Distance: 13 miles
Visit the incredible burial site of an Anglo-Saxon warrior king with a full size reconstruction of the burial chamber. Sutton Hoo is set in a 245-acre estate which offers beautiful views and winding walks.

Distance: 4 miles
Spend a day out with the animals in the Deben river valley. There are plenty of activities for children, including pony rides and egg collecting.
