Listing and Other Types of Designation

Designation is a way of marking that a building, monument or landscape has special interest in a national context. It’s a stage that identifies a site as being architecturally or historically important before any planning stage that may decide its future.

There are currently different names for designating different types of site.  the most commonly known one is listing for buildings. For more information click on the links below.

Listed Buildings

English Heritage marks and celebrates buildings with special interest by recommending them for listing.
