Codsend Moor, Exmoor

The prehistoric and historic landscape features on Codsend and Hoar Moors at the heart of Exmoor National Park are being re-assessed in the light of recent work on Exmoor’s archaeology. The site was discovered and surveyed back in the 1980s, but so little was known of Exmoor’s archaeology then that it’s importance as an extensive area of prehistoric relict field systems, together with hut circles, cairns and standing stones was not fully appreciated. A walkover survey and assessment of the subsequent land use in the area is putting the archaeology of the area in its regional and national context.
