Key Stage: 1,2 History
Explore the life of a Victorian servant in a completely different way - meet Mrs Warwick, the formidable housekeeper to the Braybrooke family at Audley End House. Students are divided into two groups. While the first group find out about life as a servant and try their hands at activities in the brand new, purpose-built education room, the second group is left in the capable hands of Mrs Warwick. Children tour the Service Wing and learn about the servants who toiled there. Sheet-folding and ironing are just two of the hands-on activities undertaken under Mrs Warwick’s watchful eye, before the groups exchange places for the full Service Wing experience. Groups are encouraged to come dressed in Victorian costume and servants’ aprons are provided.
Book a free tour to follow the workshop and use it to compare the grand rooms of the masters with the stark accommodation for the servants
