Stella McCartney's Lucky Spot canters back to Belsay
Back by Popular Demand from Easter 2009
Lucky Spot is back by popular demand. Cantering back to Belsay and opening to the public at Easter 2009, thanks to funding from Castle Morpeth Borough Council.
Stella McCartney was inspired to create Lucky Spot following a visit to Belsay. Her response to this beautiful place with its grand medieval castle and mystical quarry garden was to create something magical, romantic and visually stunning. She designed a jewelled curtain of thousands of Swarovski crystals that hung in the shape of a horse from the ceiling in the Castle's Great Hall.
Lucky Spot is an artwork made specifically for this wonderfully historic location, sending jewels of light onto the ancient stonework. English Heritage is delighted to welcome Lucky Spot home, to the place that inspired its creation. Come and experience it for yourself soon!
Lucky Spot Returns to Belsay thanks to Castle Morpeth Borough Council's £xtra Mile Fund.
Stella McCartney’s Lucky Spot, was inspired by and designed specifically for Belsay Castle’s Great Hall. The Great Hall is situated on the first floor of the castle up a narrow spiral staircase which may not be suitable for visitors with impaired mobility. The sculpture will be visually accessible to all – thanks to the installation of a touch activated screen on the ground floor. The screen will be showing a 360° view of Lucky Spot, so that those who are unable to access the second floor of the castle can still appreciate spectacular views of the crystal horse giving people the chance to see the horse in the setting it was intended for. Due to visitor demand, at peak times there may be a short wait to view the horse. The team at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens will do their best to manage and minimise these waiting times.
