Conservation Projects

English Heritage undertakes a varied and huge range of conservation projects. This section is intended to illustrate some of the key high profile conservation projects.

  • Apethorpe Hall
    An insight into our rescue project to save grade I listed Apethorpe Hall in Northamptonshire, one of the finest Jacobean houses in the country.
  • Updates from the 2009 Birdoswald excavation
  • The JW Evans Factory
    JW Evans, a family silverware and plate manufactory at the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, will now be restored so that future generations can understand and appreciate a vitally important element of our industrial past.
  • The Archaeological Projects Team will be excavating in East Harptree together with volunteers from the Harptrees History Society and other local history/archaeology groups to explore the history of the village.
  • Richborough Excavations
    Archaeological excavations are being carried out by English Heritage’s Archaeological Projects Team during September 2008
  • Silbury Hill (Avebury)
    In June 2000, a large hole suddenly appeared on the top of Silbury Hill, Europe's largest prehistoric artificial mound and a key feature of the Avebury World Heritage Area.
