The Regional Archaeologist is head of profession to the Greater London Archaeology Advisory Service. The role includes representing GLAAS on regional and national committees, advising on strategic pan London projects, compiling the Annual Review and liaising with the boroughs and the historic environment sector.

Sites and Monuments Record
The Sites and Monuments Record contains the core data upon which GLAAS advice is based. A range of consultants, contract archaeologists, and planning advisors use the SMR to inform decision making in the planning process. Archaeology Advisors
**Please note that the London Boroughs advised by the Archaeology Advisors have been slightly changed, so that they match more closely the London Region historic environment advice teams' areas**
The Archaeology Advisors form part of the London Region Historic Environment Advisory Teams. They provide advice to the London Boroughs, in accordance with Planning Policy Guidance notes PPG15 and PPG16. They advise planners, developers, archaeologists and local people on the impact of proposed development on archaeological assets. Advisors monitor the quality of archaeological work undertaken by contractors and consultants.

Science Advisor
The Regional Science Advisor provides guidance on all aspects of archaeological science in London, from dating techniques to the impact of piled foundations. This includes organising training days for the archaeological community.

Inspector of Ancient Monuments
Some monuments are recognised as being of national or even international importance and protected under the Ancient Monuments and Areas Act 1979. It is a legal requirement to obtain consent for any works that affect scheduled ancient monuments.
