Some example air photographs:

All of the photographs are of Rustington in West Sussex.

Air photo of Rustington, West Sussex 1946 Rustington,  dated 1946.  English Heritage (NMR) RAF photography

The 1946 photograph shows some post war building in progress - new roads show up paler.  However, there is still a lot of open space in the West (left) side.  Remains of wartime defences can just be seen along the coast.

Rustington Convalescent Home, designed by the architect Frederick Wheeler, is surrounded by open space to the south of the boating lake.  During the war this building was requistioned.

Many of the open spaces within the town have been infilled and the factory building near the coast has been replaced with housing.

Building work has started on the land next to the  convalescent home.  During the 1970s the home was refurbished and is still run as a home today.

This photo shows new housing development encroaching onto the open fields in the west.  This development has continued and today the open space between Rustington and Littlehampton has disappeared.
