Few other venues have the rich and varied history of Dover Castle. Its ancient castle walls and labyrinth of secret tunnels have hosted nobility through the ages, witnessed sieges, sheltered armies and played a pivotal role in protecting the country.
In the 12th century, King Henry II built the massive stone Keep that forms the centrepiece of the castle as it stands today, and more recently, the network of underground tunnels deep within the white cliffs secretly housed 700 servicemen and women during Word War II. They were the nerve centre of ‘Operation Dynamo’ where Vice Admiral Ramsay masterminded the miraculous evacuation of 338,000 allied troops from Dunkirk.
Dover Castle's colourful history and spectacular views offer a memorable setting for unique events. Choose from the medieval splendour of the mighty Castle Keep, the 1940's nostalgia of the Secret Wartime Tunnels, or the expansive majesty of events in the castle grounds.
