Winterbourne Stoke Barrows - The Neolithic Long Barrow

The earliest burial mound in the group is the long barrow. It would have been built between 4000 and 3200BC, making it earlier than the ditch and bank at Stonehenge.

It is particularly well preserved and the side ditches can still clearly be seen. The barrow was used for several burials over a long time span, possibly over a thousand years. Excavations showed a primary burial at its north eastern end and later, secondary burials dated to the Bronze Age
