Castle of Legend

Tue 30 May - Thu 1 Jun 2017

Tintagel Castle

Suitable For

A man at the top of a castle raising a black flag.

Please note: due to weather damage, the steps to Tintagel beach are currently out of use. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The Island, mainland courtyard, café and exhibition are all open as normal.

Spend a day with Florence Nightingale Richards, the eccentric Victorian keeper of the castle keys, her eccentric cousin and two of the most bizarre storytellers alive, as they take you around the site.

Hear some of the ancient stories associated with the castle, the great seafaring Britons around its coasts and tales of famous visitors to Tintagel. Throughout the day join us on the mainland courtyard to challenge your friends and family to circus skills and games.

Timetable of events

11.00am My Tintagel Florence's Cottage (at the base of the cliff steps - just past the main visitor centre)
Ticket holders please pick up your Victorian penny from the ticket office and join Florence at her cottage. Florence will sell you a glass of her home made lemonade before she and her country cousin, Peter, take you on a whistle stop tour of Tintagel Castle, taking in Merlin's Cave, the steep steps, and the Island Castle. Be prepared for lunacy as well as legends, the ludicrous as well as the learned.

12.00pm bZents presents:Arthur! Wart and All Mainland Courtyard
Join BZents for an irreverent but fun look at the legend of King Arthur. Knights, round tables, magicians….they are all here!

1.00pm Pull The Uther One Mainland Courtyard
Florence and her cousin tell the most ancient stories of the conception and birth of Arthur Pendragon, ancient King of The Britons. Expect a liberal dose of excitement, exaggeration and eccentricity as the ancient characters of Arthur, his father, Uther, and the magical Merlin are brought to life to tell the tale
2.00pm bZents presents: Horatio's Last Hurrah! Mainland Courtyard
As you are here by the seaside we're pushing the boat out for the exploits of Britain's greatest seafaring legend, Horatio Nelson.
3.00pm The Curious, the Serious and the Frankly Amazed Island Courtyard
Florence, ineptly aided by her cousin, regales all with stories of the famous nineteenth century visitors and how they re-told the tales and myths of Tintagel. Caution, involves stories, stilts and serious silliness.
4.00pm bZents presents: Arthur! Wart and All Mainland Courtyard
Join BZents for an irreverent but fun look at the legend of King Arthur. Knights, round tables, magicians….they are all here!
