WWII Weekend

Take part in the forties experience at our WWII Weekend. This year is the 100th anniversary of the WRENS, and this very weekend also marks 77 years to the day since Operation Dynamo - where we'll have something new to see in the wartime tunnels.

Soak up the atmosphere in the military encampments and get up close to a full size replica Spitfire. Meet the Land Girls and earn about their role in wartime, visit the 1940s beauty parlour for a victory roll hairdo, then revive that wartime spirit with a lovely brew from the original NAAFI wagon or go for something a little stronger in the 'Resistance' bar.

Step inside Mr Smith's shop on the Home Front and discover the austerity of the war years from the Ministry of Food. Experience the German field hospital and don't forget to keep your documents handy in case of inspection! With a live band playing music from the 40's and plenty of hands-on activities for children including a brand new assault course - it's a weekend of discovery as you find out about the realities of 1940s wartime Britain.

Travel to the event by Southeastern and use the special free bus link between Dover Priory Station and the castle. The first bus from the station will be 9.15am each day, and the last bus back from the castle will be 6pm, with buses at 30-45min intervals through the day. Get a 20% discount on admission if you travel by train by showing your valid train ticket on arrival at the castle and buy your admission tickets on the door. If travelling to the event by car, please use the A2 to avoid heavy traffic on the A20.
