To celebrate the opening of the “Costumes from Austen” display of TV and film costumes, we bring together both the genteel and graceful side of Regency society with the dramatic and theatrical side.

Belsay Hall plays host to displays of a fabulous collection of costumes from a variety of Jane Austen film and TV productions. See the infamous shirt worn by Colin Firth in TV’s Pride and Prejudice, Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress from Emma and many more.

Mon 27 May - Sun 2 Jun 2013 (bank holiday)
Meet Thomas Turlis, the 18th Century Hangman at Tyburn. Hear his tales of felons and their punishments during the Georgian period and take part in trials. There is also a crime and punishment trail in the grounds.

Join our 'Town Crier' as he leads you on a light-hearted 'romp' through the Regency. Learn all about this colourful period in history. This event reflects the 'Costumes from Austen' display of TV and film costumes in the hall.

Especially for children and families – a non stop programme of activities and hands on history. From the Pirate Trail to the Highwayman assault course and storytelling, sword and cutlass drill and craft activities from the Georgian and Regency period.

Take a step back in time with Chapterhouse Theatre Company as we meet Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters. Whilst their interfering mother engineers various courtships, sisters Elizabeth and Jane must pursue their own quest for true love.

A collection of period performers, from military soldiers from Wellington’s army, master musicians and even a camera obscura are all gathered at Belsay Hall. A delightful weekend evoking the period of Jane Austen’s books.
