Open every day this summer, Birdoswald Roman Fort is the perfect place for a family day out or as a place to stop and relax if you're walking or cycling along Hadrian's Wall in Cumbria.
You can explore the extensive remains of the Roman Fort and the longest continuous remaining stretch of this magnificent World Heritage Site can be seen here. Inside, the visitor centre has interesting interactive displays and artefacts, as well as a model of the Wall at its full height.
Enjoy delicious locally made cakes and treats in the tearoom, while outside you can see wildlife in abundance as this site is a real nature haven. Birdoswald also offers farmhouse-style accommodation for those wishing to stay within this historic site.
