• NAAFI Restaurant
  Enjoy great views over the English Channel in the newly refurbished NAAFI Restaurant, which offers a selection of delicious hot meals and homemade treats. From homemade soups and sandwiches to fair-trade hot beverages, soft drinks and cider from local suppliers, there's plenty to tempt the taste buds after a day exploring the castle.

• Secret Wartime Tunnels Cafe
  Offering a selection of homemade sandwiches, hot stew and crusty bread and a selection of cakes and afternoon teas, the Secret Wartime Tunnels Cafe is the perfect place to reflect after your visit to the tunnels.
• Great Tower Cafe
  Looking over the Tower itself, the Great Tower Cafe offers everything from homemade soups and freshly made sandwiches to  local juices, beer and fair-trade hot drinks. You won't be able to resist our selection of cakes and afternoon teas.

Shop

Take part of your ‘Operation Dynamo’ experience home with you by visiting our new wartime-themed shop at the exit to the tunnels. Discover more about wartime Britain with our range of fascinating books, treat the kids to a 1940s inspired toy or game, or pick up one of our ‘Home Front’ products – a range of jewellery and fashion accessories inspired by the era. Don’t forget to also visit the Great Tower shop, for gifts inspired by the medieval court of King Henry II.

Access

Extensive grounds mainly accessible on tarmac paths but there are some very steep slopes. Wheelchair routes  highlighted.

A limited number of manual wheelchairs are available for free loan for use on the level areas of the site. These wheelchairs must be used with the aide of a companion who can support and stabilise the wheelchair both when in use and while stopping.  The land train or courtesy vehicle should be used to get to the top/bottom ends of the site - avoiding use of wheelchairs on steep slopes. Manual wheelchairs can be reserved in advance (where available) by telephoning the site directly on 01304 211067.

If you bring your own wheelchair/mobility scooter it is preferable (due to the surface and topography of the site) that these are not 3-wheeled.

A land train is available for access to different areas of the site.  When the land train is not in use a courtesy vehicle is available.

Parking: disabled visitors may use Palace Green car park  (next to  the Inner Bailey at the top of the site) to avoid  the steep path from Constable's Tower and cobbled drawbridge.

Toilets: adapted WCs available throughout the site.

Secret Wartime Tunnels: a limited number of mobility scooters (exact dimensions to fit through the tunnels complex) are available for free loan to access both levels of tunnels. You can reserve these on arrival at the site.   Two lifts are available to ensure all visitors are able to enjoy all aspects of the Secret Wartime Tunnels complex.

Great Tower: Due to the historic nature of this building, wheelchair access is limited. Steep and spiral stairs are located throughout the Tower.  

Shop: level access.

Restaurant and cafe: level access.
