The man who destroyed monastries was also the man who built fortresses and palaces. Henry VIII built Pendennis Castle to guard the southern coast against the perennial threat of a cross-channel invasion.
It saw action during the English Civil War when the Royalists waited out a five month siege and played its part in June 1944 when troops set off from Falmouth under the cover of guns from Pendennis, St Mawes and St Anthony Head.
Callie's Cottage, which sleeps four, was built 100 years ago as a Sergeants' mess but takes its name from Callie Saxty MBE, the castle's retired Operations Manager.
She came to live here for 18 months and stayed 24 years. Callie always felt sorry for day-trippers because Pendennis takes on a new life once the crowds have dispersed. Staying here affords a chance to find out precisely what she meant.
Inside the cottage is superbly equipped and the look is sleek and contemporary.

Testimonials
Dear Sirs,
Back in October my wife and I stayed at Callie’s cottage in Pendennis Castle and since then I have kept meaning to write to say what a wonderful stay we had while we were there. Lizzie’s welcome was – well – very welcoming, and the cottage was just amazing. I commented that I thought that it must have been kitted out by Harrods, it was so good. It was also a thrill to have the keys to the castle gates for when we were the only ones there!
We will certainly consider staying at another of your cottages again, hoping that they come up to the same standards.
Regards,
Terry and Barbara Harris
