When I join, what will I receive?

If you joined online:-

Within 10 working days you'll receive a Welcome Pack (containing a handbook, car sticker, and bookmark) and your membership cards. If you'd like to visit one of English Heritage's 400 historic monuments, buildings, and places before then, simply show our site staff your email confirmation of membership plus a valid form of identification.  

If you joined on-site:-

Site staff will give you a Welcome Pack (containing a handbook, car sticker, and bookmark) as well as temporary membership cards so that you can enjoy access to English Heritage's 400 historic monuments, buildings, and places, straightaway. Your permanent membership cards will arrive within 28 days.

What is the Members' Area for?

If you're an English Heritage member, by registering on our Member's Area. you can renew your membership online, update your details, take a trip down memory lane with our photo gallery, create your own wish list, and much more.

Questions about lifetime membership

If you join as a life member, you can enjoy:-

  • Unlimited access to over 1,000 historic sites in the care of English Heritage, Historic Scotland, Cadw, OPW Heritage Ireland, Manx National Heritage, and Heritage New Zealand.
  • Free entry for an adult guest, plus up to six children each (under 19 years) within the family group for Historic Scotland, Cadw, and OPW Heritage Ireland.
  • Free entry to all English Heritage daytime events for you and an adult guest or two children (under 19 years). Standard members' rates apply to our exclusive members' events, evening events, and those run by other organisations.  
  • Free or reduced entry to over 100 associated attractions
  • Free exclusive Members' Magazine every quarter.
  • Free handbook every year (RRP £10.95) which is packed with information on our properties, events, and more.
  • 10% discount on bookings for our Holiday Cottages 

How do I upgrade my membership from annual to lifetime?

Go to Join or, if you prefer, call our Membership Team on 0370 333 1182.

Do you offer Lifetime Membership for the over 60s?

Yes. If your partner is aged under 60, you have a couple of options:-

1. Join as Joint Adult Lifetime Members (giving you both independent free access) or

2. Join as a Senior Life Member (giving your partner free access when they accompany you) and make the change to Joint Senior Lifetime Members once your partner reaches age 60.

Can English Heritage claim Gift Aid on Life Memberships?

We're unable to claim Gift Aid due to the potential level of benefits this membership gives over your lifetime. 

I'm disabled. Can I bring a companion?

English Heritage takes its responsibility under The Equality Act 2010 very seriously.

That's why we provide free site access to up to two assisting companions of a disabled member or visitor. We recognise these companions are key to making access possible, as well as creating an enriched and memorable experience.

We don't ask for any proof of disability, the companion doesn't have to be a registered carer, nor does it have to be the same person each time you visit.

How do I buy an annual membership as a gift?

Why not treat someone special to an annual membership, giving them access to English Heritage's 400 historic monuments, buildings, and places?

Within 10 days, they will receive a gift pack containing a welcome brochure and details of how they go about activating their membership, either online or by phone. If the gift is needed earlier, a gift certificate is available to download and print once you've made the purchase.

How do I add or remove a member?

Can I transfer my membership to a family member or friend?

No, memberships are not transferrable.

How do I change my address?

If you've recently moved, you can update your contact details by registering on our Member's Area.
