English Heritage cares for over 400 historic monuments, buildings and places. Through these, we bring the story of England to life for over 10 million visitors each year. We are already a substantial charity, employing over 2,000 staff; but our ambitious plans over the next six years will see us become even more financially independent, increasing our income from c£100m to c£120m by 2022/23, which includes a significant increase in our fundraising capability including a major capital investment programme of £42m.

We now seek a Territory Director South to work across our unique collection of properties and lead a large committed and passionate team in our South Territory. In this exciting role you will be responsible for overseeing 26 staffed sites which attract 2 million visitors every year and which includes the iconic historic properties of Osborne, Queen Victoria's countryside retreat on the Isle of Wight, Dover Castle in Kent and Kenwood House, home of the Iveagh Bequest in Hampstead. You'll also play a key role in increasing the property portfolio in the territory and deliver financial growth by identifying a new flagship property in London to strengthen our presence, as well as identify a new and compelling vision for properties that have yet to reach their full potential such as Audley End House and Gardens and Carisbrooke Castle.

Working closely with the Executive, you will be the charity's senior representative in the territory and as such you will be a dynamic and inspirational leader with the ability to inspire trust and deliver strong results, embodying our three key guiding behaviours of Collaboration, Innovation and Empowerment. Commercially astute you will bring considerable experience and insights into running an historic property or visitor attraction and will bring the drive to maximise on the outstanding opportunities that exist within this truly stunning collection.

As well as proven senior, strategic leadership experience, you will have exemplary communication skills and bring the necessary presence and flair to be able to represent us at the highest levels with our external stakeholders and with the wider public.

No matter what you do or where you do it, by joining us you'll be playing a vital role in looking after some of the greatest places in England so that they can be enjoyed today and for generations to come. You'll find it's a workplace like no other - taking you behind the scenes of these extraordinary sites and supporting you to share your ideas, inspire others and make a difference.

This role could be based in any one of EHT's principal offices in London, Dover Castle or Wrest Park with frequent travel to key EHT sites. If the job-holder's principal office is not London, travel to head office in London a minimum of 1 day per week is essential.
