Circa £50,000 pa, dependent on skills and experience
Job type

Would you like to use your passion for leadership and delivering exceptionally high quality visitor experiences to be at the heart of the next chapter in English Heritage's story? If so, then join our team as the Head of Historic Properties for the Isle of Wight cluster and be in a role that can really make a difference.

From the romantic castle setting of Carisbrooke across to one of Henry VIII's finest coastal forts at Portland Castle and back to the island for the iconic Osborne House with its fascinating history as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's family home, the Isle of Wight cluster really does offer a fantastically diverse range of wonderful sites. And this could be your chance to lead them.

Having direct management and stewardship of Osborne itself, you will inspire the team of staff and volunteers there and at all other sites in the cluster to deliver the very highest standard of experience and customer service for our visitors. You will develop strategies for the properties that create a sustainable future and the achievement of agreed budgets.

As well as ensuring that a keen commercial focus is maintained in the visitor-facing environment, you'll also work in partnership with colleagues across different departments in the territory to deliver high standards of presentation and maintenance whilst also ensuring that all activities are in line with the English Heritage brand.

We're looking for someone who is a proven leader, able to manage a large and diverse team and inspire them to achieve results, and who can embody the English Heritage behaviours of Collaboration, Innovation and Empowerment in everything they do. You'll also have exceptional stakeholder relationship skills, being able to co-ordinate differing ideas and priorities for the common good and creating a culture of mutual respect and understanding.

If you can bring those skills as well as proven experience in achieving income targets through a number of revenue streams whilst controlling costs to achieve a budgeted operating surplus, this could well be the role for you.

English Heritage cares for over 400 historic monuments, buildings and places. Through these, we bring the story of England to life for over 10 million visitors each year.

No matter what you do or where you do it, by joining us you'll be playing a vital role in looking after some of the greatest places in England so that they can be enjoyed today and for generations to come. You'll find it's a workplace like no other - taking you behind the scenes of these extraordinary sites and supporting you to share your ideas, inspire others and make a difference.

Please provide your CV and a covering letter, no more than two sides of A4, explaining why you are interested in this exciting role and how you meet the requirements of the Job Description/Person Spec.

Interviews are expected to be held on 5th April 2018
