Working on the Richmond Cellblock project you will join a diverse project team delivering conservation work, research, interpretation and a programme of community engagement. In this role you will work closely with English Heritage staff to deliver a programme of volunteer led research on graffiti in the Richmond Castle Cellblock. The successful candidate will inspire and guide volunteers, helping them to conduct, archive and, where necessary, disseminate in depth and focused research of the highest standard.
The 19th and 20th century graffiti covering the cellblock walls at Richmond Castle is among the most significant in England. As part of the team researching this incredible record, you will help guide, mentor and support a small group of volunteer researchers. Working with these volunteers and English Heritage staff you will contribute to the evolution and undertaking of an exciting programme of research exploring the graffiti.
You will help ensure the quality and accuracy of volunteer outputs and will work closely with internal colleagues to archive and, where necessary, highlight material for dissemination.
This is a 12 month fixed term position. You will work 14.4 hours per week. The exact working pattern will be discussed at interview.
Applicants must have a passion for working with volunteers, be confident building a rapport with participants, and enjoy being a part of a busy research team with constantly changing priorities.
You will have experience conducting original research to a high standard, have good organisational and interpersonal skills and will be able to use your initiative to identify research priorities and needs.
Due to the nature of the role, you will be working in the local community and travelling for meetings which often are in locations not served by public transport, therefore it is essential you hold a drivers licence.
