Heritage lives in places and people, memories and stories, artefacts and traditions. It can connect us all to the past, and to each other. It can make us happier, strengthen every community, and help shape society for the better. Everybody should be able to enjoy the benefits it brings.
That's why, as a charity, we care for over a million objects and hundreds of historic sites in every part of England, from international icons to local treasures. And it's why we open them up, share their stories and find new ways for everybody to enjoy, learn, play and create.
We are looking for a Network Engineer to join our team. The role is full time and permanent. You'll be on a permanent, full time basis, working 36 hours per week.

This is a great opportunity for a Network Engineer who wants empowerment and opportunities to broaden their skills to make a great difference in a diverse technical estate.
As Network Engineer, you will enhance and maintain a robust network infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity across multiple heritage sites. You will collaborate with stakeholders, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement security measures to minimise disruptions.
Through innovation and technology adoption, you will support the charity's growth while upholding governance standards.
The role offers hybrid working; however, you will be able to attend our office in Swindon 1 day a week and other offices or sites for meetings, work groups when required. A proportion of these sites are in remote and rural locations, therefore resilience and the ability to work independently is key.
To be considered as a Network Engineer, you'll need:
- Network Design & Implementation - Experience in designing and translating logical network designs into physical implementations using industry standards and methodologies.
- Technical Expertise - Strong knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, including LAN (VLAN, TCP), WAN (SD-WAN), Telecoms (Cloud and on-prem), and WLAN.
- Problem-Solving & Analysis - Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues, evaluate information methodically, and develop effective solutions.
- Security & Compliance - Capability to review and verify network designs against non-functional requirements, ensuring security, access controls, and audit compliance.
- Stakeholder Collaboration - Experience working across diverse locations, engaging with stakeholders from business operations to senior management, and effectively communicating technical concepts.
- Project & Documentation Skills - Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise projects, and maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures.
Interviews will be held on MS Teams for the first round and successful candidates will be asked to visit the Swindon head office for a face to face second interview.
