Rise in illegal metal detecting at English Heritage sites
English Heritage has called for communities around the country to remain vigilant in order to help protect historic sites from illegal metal detecting – or ‘nighthawking’ – as the charity today reported an increase in incidents at the places in its care.

Leave your Christmas decorations up until February, says English Heritage
Keep the halls decked with boughs of holly and leave up your Christmas decorations until February, English Heritage appealed today (5 January). After an especially tough year and to bring some cheer into the coming dark winter months, the charity is encouraging the public to do as their medieval ancestors did and leave up their festive adornments until Candlemas on 2 February.

Queen Victoria's Hindustani Diary on Display for the First Time
A diary showing how Queen Victoria learned to write Hindustani under the tutelage of her Indian servant Abdul Karim will go on display to the public for the very first time at Osborne, her Isle of Wight home, English Heritage announced today (Friday 15 September).
