Bob Marley awarded English Heritage blue plaque
Jamaican singer-songwriter Bob Marley has been honoured with an English Heritage blue today (Tuesday 1 October), joining the likes of Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, George Frideric Handel and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The plaque marks number 42 Oakley Street, the Chelsea house where Marley lived in 1977. It was while living here that he and the Wailers finished recording their album Exodus, which featured some of his biggest hits, including 'Jamming', 'Waiting in Vain', 'Three Little Birds' and 'One Love'. With this address as his Chelsea home, Marley said he regarded London "as a second base," often playing football with his bandmates at the pitches in nearby Battersea Park.

Blue Plaque for Churchill’s Favourite Spy
English Heritage has today (16 September) unveiled a blue plaque to Christine Granville, the Polish Second World War special agent who Winston Churchill once called his "favourite spy". The new plaque marks 1 Lexham Gardens Hotel (then the Shelbourne Hotel) in Kensington – the hotel was Granville’s London base after the war, in the centre of the city’s post-war Polish community.

Ellen and William Craft, African-American freedom fighters who made a daring escape from enslavement in Georgia, USA, and fled to Britain in the mid-19th century, have today been commemorated with an English Heritage London blue plaque. The plaque marks 26 Cambridge Grove, a mid-Victorian house in Hammersmith where the Crafts settled and raised their family, using their home as a base to campaign for abolition, radical reform and social justice.
