Grime's Graves - Prehistoric Flint Mine
SUITABLE FORAdults
Visit the Grime’s Graves Goddess! Discovered during excavations in the 1930s on an altar at the base of Pit 15, the small statuette continues to baffle archaeologists over its validity and meaning. We will explore the story of its discovery and controversy with access to the rarely opened galleries of Pit 15.
Please be aware that access to the pit is via a ladder and is not suitable for anyone afraid of heights or confined spaces. Participants will be able to crawl around in the mine pit, which has restricted spaces and access. Restricted to children over the age of 12 and they must be accompanied by an adult.
This tour is graded as challenging access as the only way into the pit is via a ladder and the pit itself has small, confined spaces.
Bookings will open on Wednesday 15 July at 9am.
