Aydon Castle is a fine example of an English fortified manor house. Built as a home over 700 years ago, it was almost immediately fortified due to the outbreak of Anglo-Scottish warfare. Its turbulent history began with a Scottish raid in 1315 where the house was pillaged and burnt, followed by seizure by English rebels two years later. Today it remains almost completely intact, set amongst the Northumberland woodland.

The Uffington White Horse Project
The Uffington White Horse is the oldest hill-figure in Europe. This abstract, sinuous image was recorded in the Middle Ages as one of the Wonders of Britain – along with Stonehenge. Measuring 111 metres from the tip of its tail to its ear, archaeologists have debated for generations the age of the White Horse: who made it and why? A new restoration and research project in 2024 will help us find more answers.
