For the first time in more than 500 years, the two separated halves of Tintagel Castle will be reunited thanks to a daring new footbridge unveiled by the charity English Heritage today (Thursday 8 August 2019). From tomorrow, visitors will be able to walk in the footsteps of the medieval inhabitants of the Cornish castle – inextricably linked with the legend of King Arthur – and enjoy spectacular coastal views not seen since the Middle Ages.

Tintagel Castle - concept designs for new bridge revealed
Concept designs from the six teams competing to design a new footbridge at Tintagel Castle were today (Thursday 3 December 2015) unveiled by English Heritage. The designs will go on display in Tintagel village from tomorrow and English Heritage is asking the public for their thoughts on the different approaches.

A stone inscribed with Latin writing and Greek letters as well as Christian symbols – all dating from the 7th century – has been excavated at Tintagel Castle.

A new bridge for Tintagel Castle - Competition winner announced
The team led by Ney & Partners Civil Engineers and William Matthews Associates win the competition to design a new bridge for the Cornish site.
