Stunning examples of Victorian garden architecture returned to their former glory
A unique Swiss-style Target House and historic folly in the gardens of Brodsworth Hall in Yorkshire have been restored to their former glory, English Heritage announced today (21 May), after a year-long conservation effort by the charity. The two Grade II listed examples of Victorian garden architecture as well as an historic rose garden have been carefully restored and are now open for the public to enjoy.

Anonymous Hadrian’s Wall excavators celebrated in new exhibition
A new photography exhibition opens at Corbridge Roman Town on Hadrian’s Wall today (7 April 2022), as part of English Heritage’s 1900 celebrations, marking 1900 years since construction started on the wall. Extraordinary Exploration: The Edwardian discovery of Coria showcases dozens of photographs of the local labourers who worked at Corbridge over nine years. These completely inexperienced excavators helped uncover remains of extraordinary quality and international renown, but have remained anonymous for over 100 years. Now, new research carried out by English Heritage has named 11 men and the charity hopes that the exhibition and the newly colourised photographs will lead to more being identified.

Bookings now open for visits to English Heritage interiors
English Heritage is welcoming visitors back into its historic buildings from 17 May 2021. As well as opening 23 sites for the first time this year, on 17 May the charity will also extend access to the interiors of more than 50 of its properties which are currently open to visitors as outdoor spaces only. To ensure a safe and enjoyable visitor experience, both members and non-members must book in advance for a specific date and time slot via the English Heritage website.
