For just over a year King Charles I was held captive on the Isle of Wight, primarily at Carisbrooke Castle. From there, he took part in numerous negotiations with the English and Scottish parliaments, failed in several escape attempts, and only heard afterwards about the uprisings of the Second Civil War in the summer of 1648.

English Heritage Blue Plaque for godfather of Glam Rock, Marc Bolan
Marc Bolan, the pioneering force behind T. Rex, has been honoured with an English Heritage blue plaque. The plaque marks 31 Clarendon Gardens, Maida Vale, where Bolan lived with his wife June from late 1970 as his career soared with hits like ‘Ride a White Swan’, ‘Hot Love’, and ‘Get it On’.
