Before you start your nomination

  • Check whether the person or group already has a blue plaque using the blue plaques search
  • Find out if the person or group has been proposed before by emailing Blue.Plaques@english-heritage.org.uk
  • Have you already made a nomination this year? Proposers are limited to one nomination per calendar year
  • Ensure your proposal meets the requirements – especially that 20 years have passed since the person died, that an associated building survives, and that they made an important positive contribution
  • Are you nominating a London address? Historic England operates the national scheme for plaques outside London

Plaque nomination

Choose whether you are nominating a person, a group or event for a blue plaque. The form below will change slightly depending which option you select.

Give a brief account of the life and achievements of the person you are nominating (maximum 1,250 characters). Full biographical research will be carried out if your nomination is eligible for acceptance.
Please explain why this person deserves a blue plaque (maximum 2000 characters). How did they make an important positive contribution to human welfare or happiness? How did their achievements make an exceptional impact in terms of public recognition? How do we know that they were regarded as eminent and distinguished by a majority of members of their profession or calling?
