Discover Walmer Castle

Built in 1539 Walmer Castle is one of a number of forts built by Henry VIII along this part of the coast to defend England from invasion by the French. Walmer Castle is the official residence of the Lord Warden, Commander of the Cinque ports, a role that has been in existence since the 13th Century and former holders have included the Duke of Wellington, Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

Testimonial

Another week at the Garden Cottage, Walmer Castle - we absolutely love it here and this was our 4th or 5th stay - we will be back for sure. Thank you to the housekeeper for keeping the cottage so well and for our wonderful welcome hamper. Access to the garden really makes this such a special place to stay.

It was a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. There were many other places of interest within easy reach. We appreciated the generous welcome hamper.
