Castlerigg Stone Circle
SUITABLE FORAdults
Castlerigg is one of Britain’s most beautiful stone circles, set in spectacular mountain scenery. It will be known to many visitors to the Lake District, but new research highlights the importance of the Winter Solstice to this wonderful monument.
Join English Heritage Landscape Archaeologist Dr Alastair Oswald on an in-depth exploration of this prehistoric gem and its surprising later history.
This tour has been graded as moderate access. December often brings wind, rain and snow to the Lake District hills, and turf within the stone circle can be waterlogged for weeks after rainfall, so please dress appropriately and wear suitable footwear.
Bookings will open for this event on this page on Tuesday 13 October at 9am.
