Members' Event:

Walking the wards at Wrest's wartime hospital

DATE

Thu 20 Nov 2025

TIME

11am - 1pm

LOCATION

Wrest Park

SUITABLE FOR

Adults

Join English Heritage historian Dr Andrew Hann at Wrest Park for a guided tour exploring its role as an auxiliary hospital during the First World War.

Step back to 1914 and discover how the house was transformed to care for wounded soldiers from the Western Front. Learn about daily life at the hospital, meet key staff and patients and hear how a fire brought its sudden closure in 1916. The tour draws on rich details from the diary and scrapbooks of Nan Herbert, the hospital’s matron and sister of Lord Lucas.

This tour is graded as moderate access due to uneven terrain.
