But, says English Heritage - as the charity revisits the lives and living quarters of Muchelney’s monks for a reinterpretation of the historic site this summer - when a relaxation of Papal law in 1336 allowed twice weekly meat consumption, life for its medieval inhabitants wasn’t quite so heavenly.
