Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire has topped the list of English Heritage’s ten spookiest sites, as voted for by members of staff across the charity’s 400 plus castles and abbeys, historic houses and palaces.

We welcomed more families to our historic sites than ever before last year. More than 550,000 families enjoyed a visit to English Heritage sites in 2023, the highest figure since records began and an increase of more than 50% over the last decade.
