English Heritage have unveiled proposals for a £1m conservation project to help protect much-loved 12th century Suffolk landmark Orford Castle for the future. The proposal to apply a layer of lime render to cover the outside of the keep, follows 13 years of research, trials and consultation with experts in an attempt to find the best way to protect the castle’s deteriorating external walls.
