Every day, hundreds of people up and down the country help us to tell the story of England, and you could be one of them.
Whether it’s helping to plant bulbs in formal gardens, running craft workshops for families or answering questions from curious visitors, there are a huge range of roles available.
Volunteering update in light of the Coronavirus
English Heritage’s priority is to keep our visitors, volunteers and staff safe and so following the government’s advice to avoid non-essential contact, we have paused recruitment for volunteering opportunities until further notice. As soon as we are in a position to open our recruitment again we will do so.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for English Heritage. We hope to welcome many new people soon.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Ways to volunteer
Supporting our visitors
Share your passion and enthusiasm with our visitors by providing a warm and friendly welcome, telling stories and answering questions.
Maintaining our gardens
As a garden volunteer you can immerse yourself in some of the most glorious gardens in England.
Bring history to life for young people by helping to deliver activities and workshops to school groups or families.
Behind the scenes
Our volunteers are busy behind the scenes in our offices, archives and storerooms in locations across the country.
Volunteering at Eltham Palace
We join Jo, a Meet and Greet Volunteer at Eltham Palace and Gardens to find out what she gets up to during a typical day, and why she loves to give her time at this stunning Art Deco mansion.
