It is said there has been a church on this site since Roman times. Join us at Chester Cathedral to explore its remarkable history.
Hear how Benedictine monks rebuilt the Saxon church into a magnificent monastery, with architecture from Romanesque, to early English Gothic right the way through to perpendicular Gothic.
Uncover 450 years of intrigue and gossip about how the inhabitants of the monastery became one of the richest in the land until the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII. Learn how the former monastery was transformed into an Anglican cathedral and became the heart of the city of Chester.
This fascinating tour brings to life the people, stories and architecture that have shaped the site for nearly two millennia.
This tour is graded as moderate access, as it is a tour covering cobbled streets with few places to stop and rest.
