Spooks and scares this Halloween
- Dare to explore some of England's most haunted castles after dark
- Children can join in with the gruesome fun at family events across the country
From ghoulish games and creepy crafts to torchlit tales and pumpkin carving, our Halloween events promise a couple of tricks and plenty of treats for all.
Witness the grand Whitby Abbey, inspiration for one of the most popular horror stories to date - Bram Stoker's Dracula - as it is bathed in light and dramatic illuminations after hours and hear the true stories of the building's torrid history. Take a torchlit tour around Carlisle Castle, the most besieged castle in the country, and hear the gruesome tales of dingy dungeons and walled-up graves.
Families can spend their half term at a host of especially spooky days out across the country with gruesome guides and the promise of a terrifying treat at Framlingam Castle, a tour of the grounds (and graveyard) with Victorian ghost hunters at Carisbrooke Castle, or experience ancient Kenilworth Castle in the dark of the night and watch out for past residents hiding in the shadows. Many sites will also be offering a prize for the best Halloween costume, as well as pumpkin carving, crafts and storytelling.
