What do we know about this Villa?

This villa was first dug in the early 1960s. People lived at Franks Hall Villa from the early 2nd century until possibly the early 5th century. Roman household rubbish from the villa was found in pits and ditches nearby during archaeological digs in the 1970s. During this dig, archaeologists found a Roman tile-built oven. The objects the archaeologists found were mostly from the 3rd century AD.

The Franks Hall Villa site was still being used as a settlement after the Romans left Britain around 410 AD. Archaeologists found evidence of early Saxon life in the area including a hut, hearth and pit, as well as pottery. The site was also used before the Romans as a farmstead during the Iron Age.
