Wheelchair Access
Wheelchair access is limited. The new exhibition and grounds are accessible. However, the shop, Keep, Ramparts and Captain's Tower are not wheelchair accessible.

Parking for disabled visitors only is located in the Outer Ward of the castle.

There are several spiral staircases throughout the castle.

Seating And Restpoints
There is a small amount of seating in the Warden's Apartments, Inner Ward, Keep and shop.
Pathways Surface And Gradients
There is a central paved walkway through to the Inner Ward and then to the Keep. To access the other sections of the Inner Ward, visitors must cross the cobbles.

All the historic steps within the castle are of differing heights.
Sheer Drop
There is a sharp drop from the castle ramparts, which is guarded by a stone wall.
Steep Slope
There is a dry moat at the front of the castle, which is very steep and visitors are advised not to climb down it.
Beware Of Traffic
The entrance to the castle is for motorists as well as pedestrians. Visitors are asked to take care when entering and leaving the castle.
Uneven Ground
The Inner Ward is cobbled and can be slippery when wet.
