This year, Illuminated Abbey has been refreshed with four atmospheric performance stations, bringing new stories, characters and perspectives to life across the Abbey grounds. Inspired by Victorian Gothic horror, Whitby’s folklore and maritime history, visitors can wander between locations and uncover the mystery of the Spooklights for themselves.

Featuring seven performers and a roaming character, each 10–15-minute performance repeats throughout the evening. Look out for The Brides Await, The Mariners’ Warning, The Victorian Philosopher and The Moth and the Moon — four very different stories inspired by the strange happenings at Whitby Abbey.
