Our Work

English Heritage cares for over 400 historic sites and hundreds of thousands of artifacts.
From mighty medieval castles to elegant country houses, and from Second World War remains to the ramparts of Roman forts, the charity celebrates England’s history in the places where it really happened, and welcomes millions of people from around the world to experience it for themselves every single year.

English Heritage is one of the beacons in the international heritage sector for their decades of effective stewardship of some of the most extraordinary historic sites accessible to the public. Their creative, ever-involving interpretation has given new visitors insight into the many layers of history to be found at complex places such as Stonehenge and Hadrian’s Wall. And there are always reasons for past visitors to come again. The greatest discovery for me on each trip to England is how much remains to be discovered. English Heritage provides the road map.
