Discover Carisbrooke Castle

Accessing Carisbrooke Castle through the medieval gatehouse is just the start of your adventure when staying  at the Bowling Green Apartment. Explore the ramparts of the curtain wall, designed to defend the castle from artillery attack from the Spanish Armada, the Motte and Keep built in the 12th Century and Princess Beatrice's privy garden that belonged to Queen Victoria's youngest daughter who was Governor of the Isle of Wight and lived at Carisbrooke Castle. Another noticeable resident was King Charles I who was imprisoned here prior to his execution. The bowling green situated behind the Keep was created as the king had developed a passion for the game.

Always a pleasure to stay. Home from home.

Wonderful experience, a privilege staying within the castle with after the visitors and staff had left for the night just the wildlife such as on occasion a pair of roosting buzzards, the partridges within the grounds etc. The staff were extremely amiable and helpful, great conversations that illuminated our historical understanding of the castle and its siege by the French etc.

The housekeeper was very friendly & helpful. The apartment was immaculate, and ridiculously well equipped - down to a set of garden bowling balls we enjoyed playing with on the castle bowling green. It was a huge privilege to explore the castle at night, when it was 'ours'.

It's an amazing location for children. We played hide and seek each evening in the grounds.
