Animal burrows around all of the site. Uneven surfaces and slopes.
Sheer Drop
The Inner Ward is located at the top of a rocky crag 155m above the Cheshire Plain, surrounded by a deep ditch. Care must be taken in all areas of the site, and no climbing is permitted on the walls.
Slip Hazard
Natural grass and stone surfaces may be slippery when wet. In wet weather, the Woodland Walk can become very muddy and slippery. Sturdy and sensible footwear is recommended for all parts of the site.
Steep Slope
The top of the castle is located up a hill 0.5km from the visitor centre. It is up steep slopes in parts, as well as a steep bridge into the Inner Ward.
Steep Stairs
There are various steps around the site as well as along the Woodland Walk.
