    No access via road. The nearest car park (not operated by English Heritage) is Winchelsea Road, Rye, TN31 7EL, which is about a one-mile walk from the castle.

  • Food And Drink

    There are no facilities at the castle but there are plenty of options of places to eat and drink in nearby Rye or at Rye Harbour.

  • Picnic Area

    There are grassy areas adjacent to the property where visitors can enjoy a picnic.
  • Toilets

    There are no toilets on the site. The closest public conveniences can be found just over than a mile away opposite Rye Heritage Centre next to the Strand car park, TN31 7DB.

  • Dogs

    Assistance dogs only.

  • Gardens

    The are no gardens at the castle but it sits within the beautiful Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.

  • Family Friendly

    Play Areas / Adventure Playground

    There is plenty of room to run and play in the castle's large open area. Unfortunately games and kites are not permitted due to the sheep in the field.

    Push Chairs Allowed

    Push chairs are permitted although access within the castle can be difficult.
  • Please Be Aware

    During the site tour you will be given a verbal warning of any heights.

    Please mind your step - there are grazing sheep and rabbit holes across the site. Be careful of the nettles and brambles as you walk around outside.

    The castle is only open as part of a guided tour.

    Due to the delicate nature of our sites, English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
