Discovery Visits at Marble Hill House

Let experts bring the history of Marble Hill House to life for your students during a hands-on Discovery Visit. Our interactive learning sessions are a great way to support your teaching in the classroom and are just £100 per group per session. 

A Very Georgian Garden: History and Landscape at Marble Hill

Take your class back in time to examine Georgian life through the story of Henrietta Howard, who made a home and country retreat in this spectacular location set on the Thames. Your pupils will learn about the remarkable Henrietta, through art, language and role-play to develop an understanding of how the landscape changed through time. This workshop uses interactive and sensory activities to explore the landscape of Marble Hill House and its rich history. At Orleans House, students will take part in an expert-led clay tile workshop using the landscape as inspiration.

  • Available during term time: March: Wednesdays and Thursdays, 1 April to 1 July: Wednesdays, 16 September to 30 October: Wednesdays

We also offer free planning visits for group leaders once you have made a booking. Our Education Booking Team is on hand to advise and help you create the best possible school trip to suit your needs and area of study.

  • Facilities
    • PARKING: We encourage that you visit us via public transport. Parking charges apply to non-members. Parking is free for members. There are 76 car parking spaces including three disabled spaces. Disabled visitors may be set down outside the entrance by prior arrangement. Coach space can be made available on request.
    • TOILETS: There are public toilets in the Coach House. Please ensure children are supervised.
    • LUNCH: You are welcome to picnic in the park. If you have booked a Discovery Visit, please ensure you have requested a lunch room when booking your session. There is a cafe on-site but this will be undergoing works, so please check our website for opening times.
    • STORAGE: If you have booked a Discovery Visit, storage for lunch bags can be provided while students are exploring the landscape, after which they can collect from the Coach House on their way to Orleans House Gallery. If you are visiting self-led please keep your belongings with you at all times.
    • WET WEATHER: Marble Hill House is an outside location, please come dressed for the weather. If you have booked a DV, our neighbours will do their best to find a suitable place for your group to eat their lunch.
