    There are approximately 20 spaces (shared with Upnor Village) located 200 metres from the entrance to the site. Visitors will need to cross a quiet village road to access the High Street, before walking down a cobbled street to reach the castle. Parking is free of charge. Coach and minibus parking is available in Lower Upnor. There is an additional car park located in Lower Upnor, should it be required by visitors.

    Although there is no café on site, the shop sells a selection of snacks including cold drinks and ice cream.

    You are welcome to bring a picnic to eat in the grounds and there are some benches available.

    There is a shop in the ticket office which sells a selection of English Heritage gifts and themed souvenirs, as well as ice creams, drinks and snacks. Visitors should be aware that access is via a small number of steps.

    Health and Safety notes are given to all visitors regarding the castle's Water Bastion.

  • Venue Hire

    Civil Weddings

    Wedding ceremonies (lasting approximately 30 minutes) can be held in the Upper Magazine. The castle is still open to the public throughout the hire period (3.5 hours) and free audios are given out to visitors an hour before the ceremony is due to start.
  • Commercial Photograph And Filming

    English Heritage welcomes amateur photographers to our sites and we hope you will share your pictures of your visit with us on social media.
    If you are looking to use one of our sites for commercial, corporate or professional photography or as a filming location, please contact our filming team as soon as possible to check availability and acquire the relevant permissions and paperwork.
    Due to the delicate nature of our sites, English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
