Warkworth Castle

Secrets in stone project

Warkworth Castle is one of the most important sites in the care of English Heritage. From its towering architecturally significance to the gentle riverside walk which leads to the rock cut Hermitage, the site has much to offer.

Over the next two years we plan to invest in and develope the visitor experience at the castle to tell a unique piece of English history. To do this we need your help.

Call to action

A visit to Warkworth Castle should be meaningful to all visitors, which is why we are keen to gather as many views as possible on the future of the site.

We have already begun the process of gathering feedback from the local community, tourism stakeholders and current visitors - a process which will gather pace in the early months of 2020. From this initial research we can see a pattern of feedback which will frame out project going forward. These include the importance of the stories of the people who lived and worked at the castle, improvements to the visitor facilities and a higher profile for the castle on the same level as other heritage sites in Northumberland.

Please email us, call in when we are open or contact us via Facebook to give us your views on how the experience at Warkworth Castle could be improved.

What will happen next?

We will continue to gather views and opinions in February and March 2020 and we hope to start sharing some ideas in late April. Depending on the final scope of the project then feasibility and developement work will progress over the summer. Design work will likely begin in November and be completed in 2021.

We look forward to hearing from and working with everyone involved in this exciting project to improve the visitor experience at Warkworth Castle.
